Hi all, Terrill here with a quick update on our intrepid travelers – – – their 24 hour train trip from Beijing to Shenzhen arrived right on time. They report that the weather in South China is still warm but the air quality is much improved and they are quite literally breathing easier. As of now they simply cannot imagine ever wishing to visit Beijing again, thankyouverymuch.
Adrianna says they are extremely pleased to have been assigned to teach senior level students in the suburb of Yantian which places them about a 30 minute bus ride away from the cleanest tourist beaches to be found. Also onsite at their new school (the name of which will have to follow in a subsequent post) will be their program coordinator. This is fortunate because he will probably be a valuable resource of helpful information as they settle into their life in Shenzhen.
For the next day or so they are staying comfortably at the Silver Lake Resort Hotel in Lohou trying to get some R&R. It definitely looks rather posh but I guess they deserve it after surviving the bootcamp of TEFL classes! Much to my relief they were meeting with a cell phone rep yesterday and promised to buy adequate phones to properly communicate with the rest of the world. As a mom, I don’t think that’s asking too much. We tried to video conference last night but that failed so we made do with Google Chat. It was only “okay” but Penley can only use two toes to type which takes up too much time. He’s really more of an orator than a literary canine.
Anyway, I believe you should be reading directly from Spendrianna soon after they get a bit of rest and are able to grab a proper internet connection. In the meantime, enjoy their photos from the Middle Kingdom!
